We'll meet virtually on Slack this week. Check the channel for more information. There will be both an afternoon and evening option. You're only required to make it to one session but are welcome to attend both if you'd like.
Each week we have a Slack discussion topic. You'll see the following discussion question posted and pinned in your Cohort's slack channel.
How would you describe yourself using an object? Include various "states" you find yourself in: sleeping, walking, eating, etc.
In the EDA Assignment Portal, you will see 'Tier 1 - Week 5' has been assigned to you. Head over to the portal and check out the requirements of the assignment then make sure your work is in by the due date listed on the assignment!
At the bottom of each week you'll see a form that you will use to provide weekly feedback. This is a great way for you to reflect on the week and helps us get a pulse on how you're feeling so we can catch any potential gaps early and make sure you're supported.
This week we'll take a look at creating and using objects in JavaScript. Objects are variables that can hold multiple pieces of data, similar to arrays. But Objects can also store functions which make them super versatile. Objects are used extensively in programming.
For this part, we'll use Code Academy to review CSS/HTML. You'll also have your first exposure to Bootstrap, which is an important frontend library used all over the web.
Make an account with Codecademy. Don't worry about getting a paid PRO account, we will only be using the free content.
Complete the following: Codecademy - Make A Website: Units 1 and 2
The unit names are Site Structure and A Closer Look at CSS. You should do all content in these units that doesn't require a PRO subscription to Codecademy.
The units Boundaries and Space (Unit 3) and Building with Bootstrap (Unit 4) are considered stretch goals, but the content is important for understanding foundational web concepts so we encourage you to finish them as well if you're able to.
These are resources are to expand and solidify your knowledge. You can use them as reference in your learning.

Growth Mindset is a concept from psychological research on human motivation and learning. It’s the outlook that academic, personal, and professional growth comes from consistent effort.
A growth mindset counters the cultural myth that we hear so frequently: that being good at something means that it comes easily to us (i.e., it’s low-effort). Research shows that our internalized beliefs about what it means to be “smart” has a significant affect on our long-term goals and learning outcomes.
