We're so excited that you're here! This portal contains all of the content for Tier 1. Each week you will participate in a Slack discussion, work through the video content, complete a homework assignment, and join in on a live video chat. You should complete all weekly material and homework before moving on to any of the recommended resources. Retention will come from practicing the concepts in the assignments and discussing the topics on Slack.
Expect to dedicate somewhere between 10-20 hours/week during Tier 1.
The Code of Conduct for Emerging Digital Academy is our community standard for all staff, students and community members. As a student at EDA it is your responsibility to review the code of conduct and adhere to all the professional and academic standards.
You can review the Code of Conduct in the School Catalog
This content is new to you. At times it may seem easy and other times, it will feel like you are underwater. Trust us, you are not the first person to feel this, expeciall when it comes to technical learning. It is part of the learning process, especially with learning software development.
Know that the more you communicate your strengths and challenges, the stronger you will leave this program. We are here for you.
Completing all the assigned work is key to your success. It may sound obvious, but you need to complete all work to finish the program. The work needs to be authentically yours, meaning that plagiarism is not tolerated. Handing in code that was written by others does not teach you anything - the curriculum is designed to stretch you.
Resetting your career is no small thing. We put a lot into the application process and we believe that you are capable of navigating this program.
It is extremely difficult to catch up in this program. Do your best during Tier 1 to have enough scheduled time each week to work on the content for the current week.
We know that life happens! In our partner program (Prime), we have seen learners who believe things will get better once they get in the classroom, that if they simply skim the Tier 1 content, things will be okay - this strategy has not worked for students.
We are here to help, but we need to know about delays and questions as soon as possible.
We expect there to be questions. We know that you are going to be challenged, have glorious "ah-ha!" moments, and experience every other emotion in-between. We are looking forward to helping you during this next phase of your life and we are dedicated to your success!
You have probably heard of JavaScript before, and now would be a good time to dive head first into it. Speaking from experience, the sooner you expose yourself to the concepts, the more you will be set up for success as we delve into some of the deeper, more challenging concepts.
Below are some materials to check out if you are ready and itching to dig in! You can come back to this content at any time if you are wanting to take on a little more in a given week. Strengthening yourself by reinforcing your studies or reviewing what you’ve learned in these areas will help you long term! In addition to free materials, we’ve included some paid resources on this list. They are not required by EDA but we think some of you may want to invest in them on your own.
